Marla Rathbun, Violin

Starting violin when I was 5, I was in our first family concert at 6. My childhood included a lot of chamber music with friends and family so I knew, at 13, that my passion in life was for music.

I got my music degrees and went on to play with multiple orchestras and an opera company for 20+ years. I was always active in a chamber group. I collaborated on, performed, and recorded many works of my brother, John Holland, a Boston composer.

I taught a private studio and coached chamber ensembles for 45 years. I retired from teaching when we lived in Brazil for 3 years and have been focusing on performing, pursuing contemporary music in solo, duo, and mixed groups.

My husband, an avid birder, and I love to travel to off-the-beaten-path places to explore interesting cultures and find exotic, beautiful birds.
